Evaluation
my evaluation for my piece:
what was my role: for my cooking show my role was to be the one cooking and the editor for this project.
what was i trying to achieve: for my final video i wanted to achieve a video that appeals to my audience and had some of the elements which i find interesting in the cooking video's that i have seen which overall spark the idea of doing a cooking video. the video's in question had subtitles but also had foley like sound in the background with music.
what were the actions i took: the actions that i took for this project was to request help from family members to shoot the video as well as asking permission to use the kitchen and cook for the family which i don't usually do.
what was the response of others:
anonymous: the instructions were clear and easy to understand for the audience and explains the entire process of the cooking video. the only complaint that i can say is that the pacing was a bit slow but overall i think is was a good video.
anonymous: the visuals show a lot of the process and which shows what the food should look like at each stage. the only thing that i would suggest adding is perhaps voiceover to add more to the video and can help make it more interesting than just reading the subtitles.
anonymous: The flow of the scenes were quite gentle and relaxing, almost asmr in the slow processes. Combined with the the soft music made it a calming watch. The clear instructions and humour were a nice touch. modern videos can be a much faster pace in order to keep attention of audience, but if you are following the recipe i think the slower pace would help you follow it, ie not having to pause the video in-between each process. Good video.
(the people whom i asked responses from watched the video with the music so that's why the music was talked about)
what were the consequences: the consequences for my piece was mainly my risk assessment from my planning page however during the process there were others that i hadn't even considered like accidentally having the wrong stove on as well as how difficult it was to cut certain ingredients.
so what does this tell me: this tells me that my overall instructions are useful and make sense in the shot they are in however some foley or a voiceover to make it more understandable or just to add another element to the video.
so what did i focus on when i acted: when i was cooking and filming for this i was also learning during this process since some of the things i did in the video was the first time i've done those. also during the filming i wanted shots from above and a side view so i wanted it to look good with the angles. but something that could have effected the video was some unexpected company so while cooking i had to make an effort to not get distracted as there was a puppy at my feet.
so what did i base my actions on: i based my actions when cooking and filming on being quiet and being careful when cooking to make it more asmr like as that is the sort of aesthetic a lot of cooking shows would be like.
so what is my newer understanding of the situation: for this project i have learnt how to work in a noisy environment and how to keep focused while that is going on. also to choose the parts that i felt fit well and showed the best angles for the final video, and from this project i now understand how to use my editing program better as well as how to get the shots that i want.
so what are the broader issues: the issues that became present in this project was the editing and the filming as the editing was slow and some exports went wrong which led me to have to redo parts and export again which made the process take longer. with the filming like i said earlier was interrupted which made it difficult to focus which could have made some scenes ruined which luckily didn't happen.
now what do i do to make things better: since we had unexpected company i feel that i should have planned it more however even if i did in this instance it probably would have been interrupted by the said company since it was so unexpected but time management would be something to improve on now that i have this project. also i would have liked to have two camera's properly as i did mine with one but paused and switched the angle. also the editing as i was using a very simple editing software as i couldn't find the link to premier pro at all, i think that it would be better with more effect or better lighting.
now what do i do to solve/resolve the situation: to solve the problem of unexpected visitors would be to have a complete plan and ensure no one would interrupt the video making process. with the editing i made it take less time by getting of some files that were open to make my export the only thing running but to better ensure i would have liked to give myself more time as my time management wasn't the best during this project.
now what broader issues need to be considered: if i were to do this project again i would consider that people may turn up as it is a possibility as I've learned from this project, also i would need to consider is another risk being cutting ingredients as when i was cutting the onion in half it took a while and hurt my wrist which is why if i were to do this again i would consider more of the risks so i dont end up hurting myself (other risks being dropping my recording device in food/water - more of the technology risks).
now what are the final consequences: i think that a lot of the consequences and risk's were discovered and planned so they won't happen/ occur again so i believe that there aren't any (or any that i can think of as of right now).
my idea's page gives my thought process to each of the idea's for this project and why i went with the idea that i decided to do for my final product and why i think it would be easier to do at home due to covid19. the only thing i would add would be more idea's of what to cook as i didn't know for a while and i think that is important as for a recipe you may need to research how to make it.
my research page has research into multicamera pieces as well as the theories that can help find a target audience and how to appeal to them. i also think that my target audience profile fits the theme that i was going for when making this video. a thing i would add to my research page would be more analysis into other cooking show's, there are some currently but i think looking into some more would have helped me grasp the sort of video i wanted to make better.
for my planning page i felt like it say's what i intend to do as well as states the risk's that i believe would occur during the filming of this project however during filming there was another risk that i hadn't considered so i think doing a proper research into these risks would improve my planning page.
my production page has the descriptors to how i made my final video however when i was producing this i didn't think of taking photo's from when i was cooking and what the setup looked like when filming as i was more focused on the filming and the things happening around me (like other people talking) so next time i would like to have more photo's of the filming process as i did have to re-create the setup for my production page.
FORMATIVE : How do you intend to use your film theory in your piece? (write on research page).
ReplyDeleteCheck that you have all of the planning documentation uploaded into your blogger e.g. risk, shotlist…
Embed your final piece to your blogger production page. Show sound and other asset development e.g. your graphics knowledge and learning. And how did your piece reach your intended audience? Your assessment grading can improve if you show your development on this page as they are interconnected…. If you upload your piece and explain HOW you worked in your audience theory and how you found your demographic? How did your plans change due to Covid restrictions?
Evaluation… structure your reflection and evaluation using Rolfe et al (you have done this, Kailey) … but to what extent have you used learnt theory in your film to reach the audience?
